Barrett´s oesophagus (BE) is a well-known premalignant condition that can be associated with the developement of dysplasia and

adenocarcinoma. Early diagnosis of neoplastic lesions arising in BE has become more frequent as a result of improved endoscopic technology,

sureveillance programmes and increasing experience and awareness on the part of endoscopists. In the past, esophagectomy

was the standard treatment for patients with BE with early cancer and high-grade dysplasia. In recent years endoscopic resection has

become increasingly important, both as a diagnostic tool for staging and as a method of definitive treatment followed by ablation of

residual BE.

Keywords: Barrett´s oesophagus, endoscopic diagnostics, endoscopic treatment, endoscopic mucosal resection.
